Description
Fill sand is a coarse-textured, free-draining, and economical material widely used in both construction and landscaping projects for leveling, backfilling, and building stable base layers. Its ability to compact well while still allowing water to pass through makes it especially suitable for filling voids beneath concrete slabs, backfilling excavations, stabilizing pipes, and increasing site elevation.
This material provides a solid, supportive base for concrete pads, patios, and driveways, and is commonly used to backfill trenches around utility lines, pipes, and retaining walls where efficient drainage is required. It is also effective for filling large holes, low areas, and raising ground levels, as well as for constructing drainage systems such as French drains, forming berms, or addressing major surface depressions. However, fill sand is generally not recommended for direct placement against basement walls in situations where waterproofing is critical, as its permeability can allow water to migrate toward the structure more easily than denser, clay-based soils.
